Cub Scout Den meetings and Pack meetings are key components of the Cub Scouting program.  These meetings are organized in a way to help scouts develop values, skills, and a sense of community, all while having fun.

Den Meetings:

Den meetings are smaller, age-specific groups within a Cub Scout Pack, organized by rank. Each Den typically consists of around 6–10 Scouts, all working toward the same rank or level. There are separate Dens for different age groups:

  • Lion Den: Kindergarten (age 5–6)
  • Tiger Den: 1st grade (age 6–7)
  • Wolf Den: 2nd grade (age 7–8)
  • Bear Den: 3rd grade (age 8–9)
  • Webelos Den: 4th grade (age 9–10)
  • Arrow of Light Den: 5th grade (age 10–11)

Den meetings are held weekly on Wednesday evenings (Lions only meet the 2nd Wednesday of the month), focusing on activities that help scouts earn advancements, badges, and awards. These meetings are led by Den Leaders, who may be parents or other adult volunteers. The activities include:

  • Advancement and Award Work: Scouts work toward earning achievements, belt loops, pins, and badges.
  • Crafts and Projects: Building projects, like birdhouses or cars for Pinewood Derby, or making themed crafts.
  • Games and Outdoor Activities: These might involve physical activities or nature explorations, teaching teamwork and skills like knot tying, fire-building, or hiking.
  • Service Projects: Scouts may participate in small community service efforts, helping them understand the importance of citizenship and service.

Pack Meetings:

Pack meetings are larger gatherings where all the Dens in the Pack come together. Our Pack meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month. These meetings are designed to celebrate the Scouts' progress and achievements, and they often involve fun, entertainment, and recognition of each scout’s accomplishments.

Pack meetings are typically led by the Pack Leadership, which includes the Cubmaster (who is in charge of the Pack), and other volunteers. These meetings generally feature:

  • Advancement Ceremonies: Scouts are recognized for the badges, pins, and awards they’ve earned during the month, with special ceremonies that might involve family members.
  • Fun Group Activities: These can include games, skits, songs, or challenges that involve the entire Pack, fostering a sense of unity and teamwork.
  • Celebrations: The Pack might celebrate holidays or special events, such as Blue and Gold Banquets (Cub Scouting's annual birthday celebration).
  • Parent Involvement: Families and friends of Scouts often attend Pack meetings, making it a community event.

In essence, Den meetings are focused on skill-building and achievement for individual Scouts, while Pack meetings bring the entire group together to celebrate accomplishments and build community spirit. Both types of meetings work together to create a fun, educational, and supportive environment for kids as they grow and learn through Cub Scouting.

Den meetings are every Wednesday at 6 PM (except for Lions, which meet the 2nd Wednesday of the month) The last Wednesday of every month is our Pack meeting for all dens and families!

Unless otherwise noted, all meetings are held at the First Congregational Church, 329 MA-6A, Yarmouth Port, MA 02675.
